Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Block Pier to Fix Bowing Wall in Kinnelon NJ
This is a before, during and after album of a block pier on a slightly bowed wall. This type of construction doesn't come up too often, but we were happy we were able to find a solution to this problem. In this instance, the engineering company suggested we do this work for the homeowner. A key to the structural integrity, this pier added to the home is the rebar. It is important that the rebar is not only in the block, but also tied into the floor and the wall itself. We broke out a key way, exposing the footing and pegged the rebar to the existing footing. The key way also provides lateral reinforcement. Now, this home is structurally sound.
Breaking Down Existing Wall to Build it Back Up
In order to get started we had to punch a hole into the existing wall break out a hole into the floor. This is the first step to adding structural integrity back into this home.

Here, you can see we have tied the new pier into the existing wall and added structural integrity with the rebar.

We then added more height to the pier. This will help stabilize the bowing wall in the home.

This is the final product of the pier stabilization. Everything is all cleaned up and the homeowners can now enjoy knowing that we have fixed their foundation problems.
